My Experience in Mt Kang-Irag Campsite

On Saturday, August 24, 2023, we visited the Mt. Kang-Irag Campsite. For someone like me, constantly caught up in the demands of a busy life, this spot offers the perfect escape for leisure and relaxation. After months of navigating a fast-paced, information-saturated world, being enveloped by nature felt like a blissful retreat that helped restore my mental balance.

Nestled in Sirao, Mt. Kang-Irag is a popular campsite in Cebu, known for its scenic beauty. It’s a destination frequented by many and has gained the reputation of being an “RK” (Rich Kid) campsite. While the origin of this nickname remains a mystery to me, the campsite’s appeal is undeniable.

So here we are, since we are from Cordova Cebu, the best solution for an easier travel is none other than riding a motorcycle. The trip took roughly two hours. Upon arrival, parking is available along the street. According to the locals, it’s generally safe, though you’ll need to pay for the parking space.

After parking and packing your things, you’ll need to walk about a kilometer to reach the campsite. The trek can be challenging since it is above the mountain, especially if it is raining. The ground will be extremely wet, and really slippery. It is highly advised to be careful, and bring only a bag as you’ll be using your 2 hands for balance and navigation. My mistake is that I brought a lot of things, occupying my 2 hands. I didn’t slip but my hands got tired. As an amateur, lesson is learned.

Bring only one bag of needs.

Upon reaching the campsite, there’s an entrance fee of 70 pesos (as of August 2024). Once inside, you’re free to set up your camp, cook your food, play music, or enjoy a beer. However, the area has some rocky spots, so arriving early is a good idea as that can give you a good camping spot.

What does the morning feel like in Mt Kang-Irag Campsite?

The morning view at the campsite is truly worth the visit. It’s serene, relaxing, and tranquil. While the quality of the view can vary depending on your chosen spot, the overall experience remains delightful as long as you’re comfortable. No matter where you set up, you’ll enjoy the calming morning scenery.

In addition to the peaceful ambiance, you have the option to cook breakfast. Cooking is allowed, but please avoid making a large fire. There is a designated cooking area at the back of the store where you can safely prepare your meals.

What does the night feel like in Mt Kang-Irag Campsite?

I particularly enjoy the night lights of Cebu from the campsite. The views extend over Mandaue City, Cebu City, Compostela, Liloan, Lapu-Lapu, and Cordova. The night clouds can be a bit eerie but are undeniably beautiful.

However, you might wonder about the weather—yes, it does rain, and it can be quite unpleasant, especially with lightning and thunder. It can be pretty intimidating, to say the least.

One downside of the campsite at night is the noise. Instead of a peaceful retreat, the area can get quite lively with people talking loudly, drinking beer, playing music, and being rowdy until dawn. To truly relax, it’s essential to find a good spot away from the commotion.

Overall

The experience is good, only when visiting sometimes. The 1-kilometer walk was a challenge and also a bit risky. The mornings are the best, the nights are good, but it could be better if people are not rowdy. The parking space was farther than you’d think. You can’t help but worry. Maybe that is just me thinking about risky since people do think that nothing will happen. This is the best experience of my August 2024. I’ll rate it 7/10 as it is not in my norm.
